Dark Circles the Under Eyes – Is Surgery the Answer? Consult Dr. Brian Evans MD

Filler or Surgery?

There are a variety of means to address dark circles under the eyes, and surgery is often the best recommendation. In many cases, especially when the presence of dark circles under the eyes is pronounced, surgery may be advisable as the most beneficial option. Many people need surgery but are too apprehensive to seek it – perhaps they had a negative prior experience and are emotionally traumatized, or they may not be prepared for surgery for other personal or financial reasons. In these cases, a surgeon should recognize the importance of respecting emotional limits.

Both fillers for under eyes and surgeries, such as the midface lift and arcus marginalis release, have been demonstrated to be safe and highly effective in treating under eye problems. Find a surgeon who specializes in the treatment of dark circles under eyes to see what he or she recommends. Your doctor should help you decide the best approach that is right for you. When you make your decision, remember that surgery is longer-lasting and may yield more powerful results, while under eye Restylane is a flexible, long-lasting but not permanent, and necessitates little-to-no recovery time, making it a great option for those whose personal or work situation may limit their ability to undergo surgery, as well as those who have a less pronounced need for dramatic treatment.

Whether you and your midface surgeon ultimately decide to opt for surgery, a filler, or no treatment, the key to a successful outcome will be planning an individual treatment and then performing it with skill and precision so that enough treatment is given without overdoing it, and so that the look is natural and suits your face.

How Surgery Helps

Surgery addresses lower eyelid contours that contribute to the dark circle. The effect is a less haggard appearance. While no surgery lasts forever, the effects of surgery last longer than the non-surgical treatments.

Find a facial cosmetic surgeon who specializes in midface and particularly under eye treatments that also has the training, experience, and great results to make him or her highly qualified. This is important because your surgeon will need to customize your surgery. When working in the midface areas, an assembly-line-style treatment approach is not a good idea. The key to a great outcome is careful planning and performance of the surgery to make it suit you on an individual basis.

One problem with the midface area that is frequently overlooked is the descent of the malar fat pad. This worsens the hollow under the eye, the midcheek groove, and even the nasolabial fold. You may interpret what you see as a simple hollowing around the eyes, but often this is truly an entire midface concern. A midface lift can address all of these areas to smooth out your features and restore the fullness associated with youth.

There are different kinds of midface lifts, and the vertical midface lift can be a great way to lift the soft tissue in the cheek back into the lower eyelid where it belongs.

Another option may be the arcus marginalis release, which is suitable for people who have too much lower eyelid fat while also experiencing an under eye deficiency that creates a hollow. To address this, your surgeon may make a small incision behind the lower eyelid so that the scar is hidden, and then he or she surgically rotates the lower eyelid fat to place it over the orbital rim, filling the hollow naturally and relieving your eyelid of excess tissue. This is a comfortable surgery that should usually be performed under local anesthesia, followed by ten to twelve days of recovery time.

Dr. Brian Evans has had multiple fellowship trainings in both cosmetic surgery and eyelid plastic surgery, making him especially knowledgeable about how general facial treatments interact with specialized eye area treatments. As a specialized eyelid plastic surgeon, he is qualified to customize your treatment in this sensitive under eye area in ways that a generalist may not be able to. Dr. Brian is attuned to your need to carefully decide whether a surgery or a filler is better for you, and he can help you make an informed decision. Facial Procedures and its Contribution to Skin Regimes

The external surface gets deteriorated every day due to the immense harsh conditions in the atmosphere. This is prevalent on the exterior of the body. The regular wear and tear that the surface is subjected to makes it susceptible to gradual aging with the progress of time during the lifespan of a person. This makes a proper care regime extremely essential to maintain the balance of the surface. The external surface should be induced to a regime comprising of exfoliation, cleansing and moisturisation. Fine lines and wrinkles start to emerge on the external layer which might become irreversible due to loss of elastin. At an approximate age of 30, the surface starts to display visible signs of aging. This however can commence before time which is known to be premature aging.

The exterior surface commonly features crows legs, fine lines and creases with age. Some people even opt for chemical treatments like glycolic peels. The procedure is harsh on the surface and burns the external skin. The process is extremely traumatic and causes immense ill effects on the surface. It however produces collagen during the process.

Treatments like facials are however extremely suitable to maintain the surface texture. These replenish the skin surface that is natural and safe to implement.

Facial treatments

The most extensive yet efficient technique is the facial therapy. These work well to provide the inner fibroblast layer with nourishment. This makes the surface rejuvenated and replenished. The treatment is natural and safe and is suitable for the health of the skin.

Deficit of Harsh Chemicals

The tough treatments are harmful for the skin and deplete the surface extensively. Harsh chemicals and ingredients are extremely harmful and cause the exterior to become prone to deterioration. Tough ingredients like paraben, sodium lauryl sulphate are harmful for the surface. Hence, it is essential to avoid using products containing such formulations.

Cleansing / Exfoliation

The most effective cleanser that removes any dead cells is like sea grains, oatmeal and wheat germ. These are not harsh but are essentially mild on the external surface. Gently cleansing the upper layer with such components is suitable to abate the formation of dry cells on the exterior.

In fact proper cleansing and exfoliation stimulates blood flow extensively. This gives rise to radiant and vibrant skin surface.

Detoxification

Volcanic ash clay is extremely useful to cleanse the exterior layers. It essentially wipes off any blockage caused by the accumulation of dirt, dust and grit. A therapeutic mask is great to remove any bacterial deposition that might be infectious to the dermal surface. It causes cell regeneration and formation of elastin.

A natural detoxification is suitable to reinvigorate the external surface. Improper detoxification does not allow essential nutrients that are active on the skin surface to seep in easily. The dermal layer within the system however remains devoid of such natural replenishers.

Hydration

After the exfoliation, cleansing and toning process it is required to moisturize the skin surface. During these extensive regimes, the suppleness and the balance of the surface get disturbed. Hence to restore the natural sheen and texture, it is required to moisturize the upper layer of the exterior.

Facial Regimes

The process of exfoliation, cleansing and moisturisation requires realization of the texture of the surface. There are several products in the line that are used to reduce the development of acne, pimples and blemishes in addition to nourishing the skin surface. These penetrate and reach deep within into the dermis to sooth the surface texture.

Natural facial regimes are great to provide optimum skin care. These are suitable to provide cell stimulation that aids in re-growth of healthy dermal layers. This increases the blood circulation and provides optimum nourishment to the inner dermal cell layers extensively.

Acne Laser Surgery Can Help Clear Up Your Skin: Dr. Brian Evans

Acne laser surgery is no longer just a fantasy. For the millions of men and women who are bothered by severe acne, it has become a very real option for restoring their complexion and improving their flagging self-esteem.

acne-surgeryFor generations, acne has been the scourge of teenagers. We all experienced that errant pimple which invariably showed up the day of the big dance. But in recent years, acne has become more of a problem for adults as well. Natural oils in the skin, the effects of stress, and reactions to diet and lifestyle choices can all produce uncomfortable and unsightly facial blemishes. The cosmetology industry has been striving to address the problem, offering everything from crèmes and ointments to acne surgery.

Those attempts have resulted in a variety of surgical options for removing the most stubborn of acne blemishes. Currently, there are three main types of laser surgery for acne scars: Ablative, Non-ablative and Fraxel. Ablative surgery uses a carbon dioxide laser to remove pimples one layer at a time. By resurfacing the skin, this procedure leaves a smooth, blemish free layer which fits in seamlessly with surrounding skin. It can also be used for reducing the effects of scars or repairing areas of discoloration.

Non-ablative acne laser surgery literally works from the inside out, destroying blemishes and also killing any bacteria which may be a contributing cause of the acne. This treatment, gentler and less destructive than ablative, also adds a topical medication to the skin to further reduce blemishes.

Fraxel laser treatments involve only destroying certain areas of the skin, leaving the healthy surrounding skin untouched. Much less invasive than the other two types of acne surgery, fraxel or fractional laser surgery is a relatively new alternative but one which holds a lot of promise. Aside from pinpointing the area to be destroyed, fraxel surgery also reduces the healing process as it doesn’t require a cooling down period afterward.

While the latest developments in surgical treatments are cause for optimism, acne laser surgery is not something which should be undertaken lightly. As the name suggests, it is very much a surgical procedure and not just a quick cosmetic fix. Before considering laser surgery for acne scars, it is imperative that you consult your doctor. Like any medical procedure or treatment, not every patient will respond the same and you need to consider the possible ramifications in your individual case. Generally, laser surgery is only recommended in the most severe cases when other, more standard, treatments have proven unsuccessful.

Before undergoing acne surgery, you’ll want to take all of the potential drawbacks into consideration. Once again, this is a serious surgical procedure and as such it should only be performed by a licensed physician. Though often considered a cosmetic procedure, you should never rely on a cosmetologist to perform it. You’ll also want to consider the cost, which can sometimes be prohibitive, especially since many insurance companies don’t consider laser surgery to be a necessary medical expense. Make sure that your insurance company will cover the cost of your treatment or be prepared to pay out of pocket.

As with most medical procedures, acne laser surgery should never be considered a quick fix. Laser surgery will address the surface issue, acne scarring, but in order to have a really effective cure you have to treat the underlying causes of the condition as well. In order to fully address your acne problem, you need to adjust your diet, control stress levels and you may also need some hormonal treatment as well. Laser surgery can make you look and feel better, but it will only be truly effective as part of an overall treatment plan to prevent any further acne breakouts.

Acne can be a frustrating and embarrassing fact of life, but now more than ever there is hope. If severe and persistent acne is a problem for you, consult Dr. Brian Evans today and find out what options exist for treatment. Before you know it, acne will be a thing of the past and you’ll be able to truly put your best face forward.

What Causes Forehead Wrinkles And How To Get Rid Of Them? Ask Dr. Brian Evans

Wrinkles can be compared to an illness that no one would want to contract for the same reason that no one wants to grow old fast or age prematurely. Forehead wrinkles make the aging process seem obvious because they make the face look older and unattractive. Some people would practically do anything just to retain their youthful appearance.

Botox
What causes wrinkles? Aging is the primary cause of wrinkles. As we age, collagen production becomes scarce and even shreds off our skin making it less elastic and less flexible. Aside from the natural process of aging, unhealthy lifestyle like poor diet, vices as well as stress also contribute to wrinkles formation. Free radicals, pollutants and other harmful toxins cause terrible damage to the skin. Smoking, drinking and eating fatty foods wreak havoc to the skin damaging its natural tone and quality. Stress, on the other hand, causes the hormone cortisol to be secreted in higher levels causing skin’s collagen to collapse. Thus, wrinkles formation is equated to high levels of stress experienced by a person.

While the causes of wrinkles are natural and to some extent unavoidable, there are preventive measures and effective treatments or medical procedures that can erase the signs of aging and bring back the clock.

First on the long list is the traditional surgical face lift. Notwithstanding the fading popularity of this type of treatment because of the huge amount of investment involved, it still remains an option for some people. Aside from being the most expensive, this type is also the most risky. This surgical procedure is designed to erase the most obvious evidences of aging by draining excess fats, tightening the muscles beneath the affected skin and removing sagging skin. A perfect facelift can take five to ten years off your actual age and make you more attractive.

Botulinum toxin type A, a type of toxin and a prescriptive medicine popularly known as Botox can flatten out wrinkles that appear in the face when we smile or frown. Once injected into the muscle of the skin, it improves the look of moderate to severe frown lines. It is perfectly suitable for forehead wrinkles and lines around the eyes.

Laser resurfacing is a relatively new treatment for reducing facial wrinkles and other skin irregularities, such as acne scars and blemishes. The lasers used could be carbon dioxide or erbium, and which remove thin layers of the skin with minimal heat damage to the surrounding structures. Recovery time from this procedure is up to two weeks.

Creams, gels and beauty treatments may help tighten the skin. However, there is no scientific proof that these work. These can be used as moisturizer to lock in the moisture in our skin and prevent dryness.
Eating healthy foods like fresh fruits and vegetables are also vital to a proactive approach in wrinkle prevention. Fibers from these foods will help eliminate toxins from the body, resulting to a glowing skin.

With a combination of any of these available treatments and preventive measures, we can say goodbye to forehead wrinkles and crow’s feet. It is best to start young and be proactive, though. The saying which goes “”an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure”" applies to wrinkle management.

The Fundamentals of a Leg Lift and a Thigh Lift by Dr. Brian Evans

Thigh LiposuctionAlthough the popularity of face lifts has general knowledge of this type of lift fairly common; most people do not have the same type of knowledge when it comes to other types of mechanical bodies. A type of body lift many people benefit from thigh lift is also known as a leg lift. There are several types of lifts and thigh many reasons a person may require one or more of these procedures.

Types of Thigh Lifts

There are several types of leg lifts, inner thigh, including elevators, lifts and bilateral median thigh lifts. These elevators may also be complemented by body lifts and buttock lifts. Lifts exact requirements vary from person to person.

The inner thigh lift to reduce the amount of skin in the thigh and it strengthens. May this be done with liposuction at the same time? Because this area of the body can be very difficult to cut through diet and exercise, this type of lift can be useful for many people – women in particular. If a person has long been a significant amount of weight is also a good option. This is because, if a person loses a significant amount of weight, in may this person be left with a large amount of excess skin as diet or exercise program can help to eliminate.

The bilateral thigh lift helps to tighten the skin on the outside and front legs. May it be done in addition to other thigh lifts (at the same time) or by itself. With this type of surgery the surgeon makes an incision in which the merits of a person suffering from underwear and removes excess skin and strengthens what is left. This type of surgery is also good for people who cannot cut anything he wants with diet and exercise or if they have lost much weight and excess skin. This type of surgery can be performed with liposuction as well.

A median thigh lift is performed in the upper inner thigh region. It may be done for the same reasons as other thigh lifts (excess skin from weight loss or stubborn weight) or it may be done simply because a person is not like the way upper thigh of his appearance or form.

What to expect

Any person who proposes to raise the thigh should know what to expect before, during and after the procedure. First, to be considered a good candidate for this type of surgery a person must be healthy, and preferably a non-smoker. It may be the healing of a procedure to lift the thigh, but the scar is usually hidden in the underwear line. Plastic surgeons may advice the patient to get liposuction thigh lift to reduce the amount of fat in a region before lifting. What Results Can I Expect From Blepharoplasty: Ask Dr. Brian Evans

Eyelid Surgery

Blepharoplasty – Look Smarter and More Beautiful with Eye Lid Surgery

As you age, you tend to lose the youthful appearance and have more chances to develop puffy eyes, eye bags or drooping skin around the eyelids. Such changes can affect the facial appearance and make you look dull or tired. By undergoing blepharoplasty surgery, you can regain your confidence and get back your vibrant youthful appearance. This cosmetic surgery, also known as eyelid surgery, is used to remove the fat deposits and tighten the loose skin around the upper or lower eyelids. “How do I undergo the surgery and what results can I expect from blepharoplasty,” are among the common questions asked by those who plan for this surgery. This article focuses on giving you a better idea about this cosmetic surgery and the risks associated with it.

Normally, blepharoplasty surgery is performed as a single procedure but doctors and surgeons may also recommend it along with other cosmetic procedures like brow lifts, facelifts, or skin resurfacing. This cosmetic eye lid surgery can correct the imperfections of the eyelids to give you a fresh look but it cannot eliminate dark circles or completely remove the wrinkles around your eyes.

Know in Detail about Blepharoplasty Procedure

Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure performed by a licensed medical professional like Dr. Brian Evans (A Board Certified Plastic Surgeon). Make sure you choose a blepharoplasty plastic surgeon who is experienced in providing this surgery. An expert surgeon will initially examine your eyelids and check to see how much fat is to be removed. During the surgical procedure, local anaesthesia is administered and the surgeon makes an incision on the eyelid to remove the accumulated fat deposits. In the case of drooping eyelids, the sagging muscles are carefully trimmed and the small incisions are closed with stitches.

Types of Surgeries Performed

Blepharoplasty plastic surgery can be performed to correct both upper and lower eyelids. The lower eyelid surgery focuses on removing excess skin, muscle, or fat. It also helps to reposition the corner of the eye or the entire eyelid. In the case of upper eyelid surgery, corrugator hyperactivity or glabellar frown lines can be improved. Moreover, it removes the puffiness around the eyelid. Sometimes when upper eyelid marginally interferes with the vision, surgeons may recommend both upper and lower blepharoplasty procedure at the same time.

After the surgery, it is common to experience temporary numbness of the eyelid skin, swelling and occasional bruising. The stitches will remain for about a week and scars may take a few months to fade away. You can return to your routine activities or work quickly.

However, it is always essential to get an expert’s answer for the query “what results can I expect from blepharoplasty”.

Dr. Brian Evans Plastic Surgeons at Beverly Hills in California is specialized in providing lower eyelid and upper eyelid blepharoplasty. A thorough first consultation is scheduled by Brian Evans MD to understand the requirements of patients before procedures are performed. Botox

Botox – An Affordable Alternative to Plastic Surgery

Have you ever looked in the mirror and wished you could get rid of those wrinkles on your forehead, or around your eyes? For years, men and women went for expensive plastic surgery procedures, often costing thousands of dollars and with a great deal of pain. Today, it’s possible to remove face wrinkles in just a few minutes, for only a fraction of the price!

Botox

Botox History

Botox is a product which is derived from a toxin from botulinum toxin type A. That may sound scary, however in small amounts; the protein can bring about some amazing results for skin care. Botulinum Type A was first used to treat individuals who blink obsessively. A pharmaceutical company by the name of Allergan, Inc. purchased the rights to the drug in 1988, in hopes it could be used for clients who couldn’t wear contacts, due to blinking too much. In many ways, this really isn’t all that strange when you consider many of the common drugs we use today were discovered on accident. In the late 90s, a married couple, both Canadian physicians made an astonishing discover: Botox actually reduced frown lines and wrinkles in facial tissue. Originally, the couple wanted to use Botox on patience in an effort to improve eye muscle disorders. Drs. Alastair and Jean Carruthers stumbled on skin treatment goldmine! In April, 2002, the FDA approved Botox for cosmetic use!

How does a Botox procedure work?

Ok, well once you have made the decision to take the plunge and try Botox, you simply find a Med Spa, physician’s office, or skin care clinic (like Brian Evans Plastic Surgery) that is qualified to provide Botox injections. Generally can expect to sit down for a consultation (often free) and the medical professional will conduct a close examination of your face skin. The professional is looking for things like crows feet; laugh lines, forehead lines, and other deep furrows with can cause the skin to look older. He or she may ask you to do a serious of facial gestures, such as smiling, frowning and making a tight face to see where deep wrinkles have formed. After a few minutes of face scrunching, it’s time to talk about treatment. Since Botox is injected, your provider will tell you how many units are recommended. Keep in mind that men frequently need more units than women because of the difference of composition in facial muscles.

Botox costs and longevity

Depending on where you live in the country, prices for Botox treatment can very. Warning, be leery of places that offer Botox for under $10.00! You want to make sure that the Botox you are receiving is not diluted with a lot of water. A good deal on Botox injections is about $12.00 a shot. Shop around and you can find some good prices! For a moment, imagine your skin completely tense free. In essence, this is how Botox works. The protein freezes targeted skin muscles from contracting, leaving a smooth, wonderfully youthful looking appearance. However; Botox is a temporary solution to wrinkles, but it is a lot less expensive than plastic surgery. You can pretty much expect that your wrinkle free skin can last anywhere from 3 to 4 months. Smoking, drinking, and stress can speed up the wrinkle process, so try to reduce these annoyances whenever possible. The more often you go back for touch ups, the less Botox injections will be needed, as the skin will naturally smoothen out. The process is painless, and comes with very few, if any side effect. In some instances there is minor bruising, which goes away within a few days.

When will you notice a difference?

After you have had a Botox treatment, the results won’t be noticeable for at least a few days. Botox takes a while to work its way through the skin and make a difference. After 24 hours, you can expect to see a slight change. Within 3 days, a significant difference can be noticed. In ten days, you will be amazed at your face, and seriously appear a few years younger. If you are looking for Botox, ask a dermatologist or qualified medical professional about its usages. If you’re thinking about plastic surgery for wrinkles, ask your physician if Botox is a viable option. Enhancing self beauty doesn’t have to cost you a lot of money!

Cleaning Your Incision After a Surgical Procedure – Dr. Brian Evans

This is a plastic surgeon’s perspective on wound care and cleaning your incisions. We are going to discuss how to clean your incisions after any surgical procedure where an incision is required suggested by Dr. Brian Evans MD a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon. The key for healing is to remove all crusting and to start with an incision that has the skin edges as close as possible together, which is partly up to your surgeon. The crusting is very important to remove because the crusts can be nourishment for bacteria that can proliferate and cause more scarring. They do so because bacterial overgrowth can extend the healing process.

The longer the healing process takes the more scarring. Dr. Brian Evans usually suggests to his patients that they use vinegar and distilled water in a 1:3 dilution to clean the incisions. Stronger dilutions with less water will make it sting more. He tells people to do this twice a day. But, you should do this for at least once a day. Sometimes it takes more than 2 times a day if there are a lot of crusts. If the crusting continues you may need to see your doctor. The goal is to get there incision to look like a fine wrinkle and as clean as possible. If they keep doing this during the first 2 weeks the incision has the potential to heal incredibly.

Always have vaseline over the incisions at all times. It has been scientifically shown that skin cells grow faster when they have two surfaces to grow on. The vaseline serves as the other surface and this promotes the healing. You want the skin cells to grow over the incision as fast as possible. This reduces the scarring and decreases the healing time. Some people advocate hydrogen peroxide for cleaning. Dr. Brian would caution that the use of this can be risky. He uses the same dilution with hydrogen peroxide and distilled water in a 1:3 dilution. The important thing to remember with the use of hydrogen peroxide, if you are going to take the risk, is to use it sparingly. You just want to use it to take the crusting off and then stop. If you do this more than that you can have more scarring. So being conservative is very important. If in doubt don’t use the hydrogen peroxide due to the risk. And if you do use it, do so for only the first week and that is it.

During your care for your wound / incision, you should continue to clean your incision for about the first two weeks and keep vaseline on the incision at all times. After this you can do regular skin care and use sunscreen during the day (approximately 12 hours) and then silicone gel during the evening for 12 hours. The silicone gel can be found at any pharmacy or drugstore, like Bartells or Safeway pharmacy. Dr. Brian would do the silicone gel for the next 3 months and it wouldn’t hurt to do it for the first 6 months. Silicone gel is one of the only things that have statistically shown to make a difference in preventing scarring. Vitamin E, Aloevera, Mederma based on my knowledge and recent literature search (05 / 2010) does not make a scientific difference. Following up with your doctor is really important to do, so that they can make sure that you are on the way to healing the right way!

Wound care and the process of cleaning your incisions after a procedure is extremely important to the end results of your incision. Although a surgeon can put together your incisions as perfectly as possible, the after care can determine the ultimate outcome. Plastic Surgery and plastic surgeons are ideal at making these incisions turn out the best that they can be.
